What is the Raju Mistri playlist?
Every construction site in India has a radio. Sometimes it is an actual radio, scratched and paint-flecked, wedged into a gap in the brickwork. More often now it is a phone with the volume pushed past where it should go, sitting face-up on a cement bag. Either way, the songs are the same, and they have been the same for thirty years.
They are ninety-percent nineties Hindi. Kumar Sanu carries most of the afternoon. Alka Yagnik and Anuradha Paudwal answer him. Udit Narayan turns up when the mood lifts. The tapes were Aashiqui, Saajan, Deewana, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge — and they never really got replaced, because nothing since has suited the work as well. Slow enough to carry over the noise. Sad enough to matter. Familiar enough that nobody has to look up.
This site collects them. Press play and it runs non-stop — no signup, no app, no ads. Pick a rotation if you want the afternoon songs, the heartbreak ones, or the loud ones that come out at chai time.
Also spelled Raju Mistry, Raju Mistari or Raj Mistri — the search box never agrees with the signboard. They all mean the same man and the same songs.
Who is Raju Mistri?
Nobody in particular, and every one of them. Mistri is the trade — the mason who lays the brick, the fitter who bends the rod, the carpenter who hangs the frame. On any Indian site the word is a job title, not a name, and it is what you call the man who actually knows how the building goes together.
Raju is the name the internet gave him. In 2026 a wave of posts about the songs that play on construction sites turned an ordinary trade into a character, and "Raju Mistri ki playlist" became shorthand for a very specific sound: 90s Hindi film music, played loud, on a speaker covered in cement dust.
He is not a singer and he never recorded anything. The playlist is named after the person listening, not the person performing — which is the whole joke, and also the whole point.
Questions
- Is it free?
- Yes. No account, no app, no ads. It plays in the browser.
- Who is Raju Mistri?
- Nobody in particular — and everybody. "Mistri" is the mason, the fitter, the carpenter, the man who actually builds the thing. Raju is the name the internet gave him. Also spelled Raju Mistry. More about the name.
- Where does the music come from?
- Every track streams from YouTube. We host no audio. Rights stay with the labels and artists.
- Why does the playlist change during the day?
- Because the site radio does. Loud songs at chai time, slow ones through the afternoon heat, heartbreak after the bulb comes on. The rotation follows Indian Standard Time, so whatever is playing here is what would be playing there.
- What is the hazri card?
- A muster slip you can make and share — your name, your trade, and the song playing at that moment. It is built in your browser and never sent anywhere.
- Can I ask for a song?
- Yes — the list grows. If a site favourite is missing, it should be here. Send it to @patelrohan750 on X.
